NEWS: Uthayan printing press torched

 The printing press of the Uthayan news paper office in Jaffna has been set on fire by an unidentified group this morning(13). The incident is the latest in a series of brutal attacks against the Jaffna-based newspaper, and its employees over the past several years and comes just 10 days after the Uthayan offices in Kilinochi was attacked by masked assailants. At least four employees were injured on April 03 when armed assailants attacked the Kilinochchi distribution office of the Uthayan newspaper and its workers.

 Investigations have revealed that the setting fire to Uthayan newspaper printing office has been an inside job to tarnish the image of the government, the Director General of the MCNS, Lakshman Hulugalle said.

Former UK Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher has died "peacefully" at the age of 87 after suffering a stroke, her family has announced. Lady Thatcher was Conservative prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She was the first woman to hold the role.

Professor Sucharitha Gamlath, a prominent academic in Literature Criticism and Sinhala languages has passed away in Colombo National Hospital this morning (30). The largest English Sinhala Dictionary in the history of lexicons in Sri Lanka was compiled and edited by late Prof: Gamlath. Prof: Gamlath played a major role as a Marxist literary critic and an expert in oriental and occidental languages for nearly four decades.
